The 2 Minute Thesis competition challenges CEGEP students to distill their research into a clear, engaging 2-minute presentation. Participants explain their research questions, methods, and key findings, making complex ideas accessible to a broad audience while showcasing their communication skills.

The 2 Minute Thesis (2MT) includes two focused prep sessions: the first helps students structure and finalize their research story, while the second brings it to life through practice, peer feedback, and delivery techniques. It all leads to a final presentation day, where each pitch is recorded and shared across sections for peer evaluation and celebration.
Week 11 of the term

Prep Session 1 – Shaping the Research Story
Students transition from research mode to presentation mode, clarifying their message and aligning their thesis with audience understanding. They begin structuring their pitch using a 5 step structure – The Hook, The Problem, The Method, The Findings, The Impact. (Research, Analysis)
Week 12 of the term

Prep Session 2 – Practicing the Delivery
With a solid structure in place, students shift their focus to voice, flow, and delivery. Through peer feedback and coaching, they refine how they connect with an audience — building confidence and presentation presence. (Presentation, Conviction)

The 2MT Showcase Series includes recorded presentations shared across sections and a final live event spotlighting top presenters.
Week 13 of the term

Recording Day – Showcasing the Pitch
Each student records their 2-minute presentation, applying feedback and performance technique. Videos are shared across sections, encouraging peer evaluation, constructive feedback, and recognition of strong communication. (Innovation, Teamwork)
Week 15 of the term

Final Pitch in front of a Jury
The top teams pitch their innovations persuasively, demonstrating strategic thinking, adaptability, and market readiness. (Conviction, Analysis, Presentation)
